(More customer reviews)Pros: Grinds easily. Very good output for size. Easy to re-fill. Has a cap to keep counters clean from mill residue. Ceramic grinding mechanism is as strong as steel and will not rust.

Cons: 1 star less because some pieces are plastic, so may break if dropped. If it lasts a year of regular use, I will upgrade the rating.
Value: In my experience, it grinds better than any other mill at this price point. You could get a better mill with metal exterior, no plastic parts, and ceramic grinding mechanism, but it will cost 3x as much as this one.

Update: After a couple years, this is still good as new. If possible, I would upgrade to 5 stars. I have used it for pepper, mustard seeds, and cumin. Cloves require a bit of wrist action, but it still turns well even though cloves are rather oily. If you want to use a grinder with several spices, then I would similarly recommend a very similar product in Ikea which is a bit less expensive andfor which they sell empty containers with lids that can be used with the grinder top.

I tried a Peugeot:
Is anything coming out?
Nope...
Hmm...adjust the knob, maybe?
Nope...
Try shaking it, maybe?
Nope...

Then came a William Bounds model.Even on the fine setting, the salt came out in clumps.

Finally I got this Kyocera, and voila!A nice, even spray of salt.Was that too much to ask?Thank you, Kyocera.

Reading about the design of this pepper mill had me very intrigued.Some of the features that caught my attention, the pepper comes out the top of the unit, no more pepper all over the counter due to pepper grounds falling out the bottom where most units discharge the grindings.Being battery powered, you only need to tip the bottom up to have a nice flow of pepper dispense out the top.A very simple design that really is useful.

Quality:Well, this is where this unit falls a little short.It really is a shame. If this design were made more durable it would be a have to have product.The area of most concern is the drive motor module to pepper mill body interface.The instructions warn not to over fill the mill with unground pepper.If you do you stand a chance of causing the motor module not to seat properly into the mill body allowing it to spin in the housing.Doing this just once, will cause the little plastic nobbies to wear off that secure the drive motor.This in turn will render the unit useless. The body of this unit is plastic.Not that there is anything wrong with plastic, I just don't think it was originally designed for plastic and the loads on the drive system seem way to high for the plastic interface.If it were made of just about any metal I don't think there would be an issue.

Filling Unit: This can be a little tricky.You fill the unit with peppercorns from the bottom.Take care to rotate the base a few degrees in the direction indicated to remove the base.Tip it upside down with the bottom facing up.Pull out the motor module using the pull ring.Add peppercorns to just below the full mark.Reinstall motor module making sure that it fully engages the grinder and that it seats all the way down.Reinstall the base and you should be ready to grind.

Color:This unit can be purchased in many colors including chrome.Even the chrome is made of plastic however.

Pricing:The price for the unit seems fair as long as it keeps working.I've had mine for about two weeks now.I will post an update as time goes by.

Conclusion:I really like the design and how the unit works.I'm glad I purchased it so far.I will take special care at filling the unit NOT to OVER FILL it. I would highly recommend to anyone that has a love of useful and very unique kitchen gadgets.

Peugeot Paris u'Select, Chocolate Salt mill, 9 inches Review

(More customer reviews)I love this new (well, new to me anyway) u-select technology they have in the most recent Peugeot mills.I would highly recommend getting the newer ones because they give you five course/fine choices and they work very well.You just twist the bottom section of the mill choosing one of the five levels.Try it out first on all five so that you will know what you like.

Peugeot mills are sturdy, durable, made very well, and beautiful.

I love the natural color for salt, and I have the chocolate one for my pepper.The 7" mills are the perfect size for me in that they fit in my hands nicely and they fit in my cabinet perfectly.

In the past I had one of the lacquered ones and, while they are quite lovely, the lacquer chips fairly easily.I was not pleased with that so it is nice to have the choice of the wood without lacquer.

Incidentally, as of this date, amazon has the wrong picture up for this item.I believe it is the five inch mill they are showing.See pics that I have loaded that show the one I received, which is the correct item for this model.As a side note, mine has a cute smiley face in the wood which I just love.
